Thirteen acres rooted in dignity.

Benevolence Farm offers housing, living-wage work and community to women and gender expansive people coming home from prison in rural North Carolina.

A farm that had outgrown its website.

Benevolence Farm hadn’t refreshed its website since 2019. Since then it had grown into one of the only reentry programs in North Carolina for women and gender expansive people of all conviction records, and it was building the first tiny home community of its kind in the state.

The site had to work for very different visitors: someone coming home and looking for a place to live, a donor deciding whether to give, and a customer who just wants a good candle. It had to serve all three without treating anyone like a charity case.

Built around what people come to do

We organized the site around the reasons people visit: find housing, apply for residency, support the work or shop. Apply for Residency sits in the main navigation next to Donate, because for some visitors it’s the only button that matters.

The storytelling follows the farm’s own rules. Second chances, never pity, and no resident photo without consent.

The tiny home community

The tiny home community is the farm’s biggest project, and it’s still being built. We gave it its own page with a self-guided 3D tour of a finished home and progress updates from the field, so supporters can follow the build instead of waiting for a ribbon cutting.

A shop that funds the mission

The farm grows the herbs and flowers that become its body care and fragrance line, and that business pays residents a living wage. We kept the Shopify backend the team already uses and brought the storefront under benevolencefarm.org, so every product sits one click from the story behind it. Candle season, it turns out, is good for the mission.

Fast, accessible and easy to find

The site launched in September 2026. Every page is built to be accessible and to load quickly on a phone, and every page tells search engines and AI bots exactly who Benevolence Farm is and who it serves.
